The Speech House

We had the most magical Christmas lunch here, and it was absolutely lovely from start to finish. The food was cooked to perfection and full of flavour, with every course feeling special. The service was exceptional — warm, friendly and attentive, making us feel really welcome throughout. The festive ambience and beautiful Christmas décor created a cosy, joyful atmosphere that truly captured the spirit of the season. The staff were outstanding and went above and beyond to make our day extra special. A perfect Christmas celebration and a wonderful experience we’ll cherish and highly recommend.

Dined here to celebrate a birthday and it was an excellent venue. The food was delicious and very well presented. The staff were wonderful, they were polite and really friendly and picked up on the birthday through our conversation and made it special. Highly recommended!

Stayed here on a two night Travezoo deal, with dinner on each day. The dinners and breakfast were good. The rooms have been updated to a high standard and are very comfortable. There are parts of the House, like many older properties, that need attention. There main dining room, in my view, is a missed opportunity to be a USP for the House.

Right in the heart of the Forest of Dean. I've stayed here a few times now. Rooms are comfy enough although did encounter one which smelt of wet dog which isn't the best aroma. Food is always tasty. Seem to be loads of staff around.

Wonderful two night stay at this hotel. Room was well furnished and cosy. The food was delightful and service was swift. Special mention to the staff who were all absolutely fantastic. One staff member gave us very insightful details regarding the history of the building, and another rescued my daughters shoes when we had left them outside and placed them in reception! Couldn't recommend this hotel any more. We will be returning when next in the area!

I recently stayed at The Speech House for a work trip as part of a group booking (around 8 of us), and I can honestly say it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. From the very beginning the staff were exceptional, incredibly friendly, professional, and impressively quick to respond to emails and phone calls. Our project was very fast moving, so their responsiveness and willingness to help made a huge difference. That support really took the pressure off our team and helped ensure everything ran smoothly. During our stay the staff were fantastic and everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind and accommodating. They made our group feel welcome and well looked after throughout. We had dinner at the restaurant and again the service and food were fantastic. The hotel itself is a fascinating building with great character and a fantastic atmosphere. It felt unique and memorable, which added to the overall experience. On top of that, it was excellent value for money, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and would highly recommend it. We have stayed at The Speech House several times, and it’s always a wonderful experience. The location is perfect — right in the heart of the Forest of Dean, surrounded by beautiful nature and peaceful walks. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained. The restaurant consistently serves delicious food, and breakfast is always a great start to the day. The Wi-Fi connection is reliable and fast, which is a big plus, especially since the mobile signal in the area is quite weak. The staff are friendly and attentive, making every stay feel welcoming and relaxed. We’re always happy to return and would definitely recommend The Speech House to anyone visiting the Forest of Dean.

Had a lovely stay. Staff all very polite even though they were very busy with a wedding. Nice touches of dog bowls and towels etc in the room and they laid us up a room in the Orangery for breakfast . Eggs Florentine was great as was the continental offering. Perfect spot for a doggy break .
